Letter by Letter by Pooja Saxena and Harshay Jha is a typographic tour that illuminates stories hidden behind the letterforms on signages around the bustling neighbourhood of M.G. Road. M.G. Road is a historic, yet fast-paced and commercial area, and its signs offer a singular lens to observe the changing landscape of Bangalore, whether it is from the perspective of social and cultural inclinations, local laws and regulations, or changing technologies. Combined with meditations on materials, fabrication techniques and typographic styles, Letter by Letter paints a rich portrait of this unseen facet of the city’s public spaces.
This film was made possible with the support of Bangalore International Centre’s B•LORE Grant (2023).
Movie Poster Zine
Letter by Letter was released with an accompanying poster-zine that showcases some of M.G. Road’s notable street lettering, including the iconic, and now lost, neon sign for Parade Café.
